Over the 10 days a total of 27 children attended for 157 days.

For over 40% of the children this was their only organised activity. We asked them which activities they enjoyed the most. The most popular answer were ‘them all’, swimming, walking and activity centres. When asked what activities they would like to see next year there were a few suggestions with the favourites being horse riding, visit to the zoo and bowling. Over 85% of the parents thought their child physical well being improved during the scheme and two thirds thought, their confidence and self esteem were improved. 80% of parents said they and their other family members were able to undertake community activities.

We received quotes from the parents as follows:

What benefits did their child get from the scheme?

Speech and understanding improves. Social interaction with other kids.
More confidence in enjoying new activities.
Helped reduce his social isolation. An introduction to other children's activities likes / dislikes etc. that he would not otherwise experience.
Independence time away from his family. He doesn't mix with other children so this is a good social activity for him.

What benefits did other members of the family get?

We were able to enjoy outings as a family without having to prioritise him and his needs.
It just makes it a lot easier to do 'normal' things with our other kids.
It enabled me to spend time with his sibling doing activities impossible to do without this scheme. The benefit is huge! It enabled his sister to have friends to play and have trips out - impossible to do otherwise.
It enabled me to spend time with my daughter and do activities we couldn't do with him.

General comments

I just wanted to say a sincere thank you for providing the scheme this year. He attended for the whole week and had a fantastic time. I can't emphasise enough how much this scheme means to him and his sister who gets the opportunity to spend much needed 'quality' time with me whilst he is at the scheme.
We think the service is fantastic and gives a much needed break in the long summer holidays. Thanks.
Fantastic service. Would like more opportunities to go out throughout the year. Excellent scheme - a real life saver for him and the rest of the family during the long summer break. Thank you for your hard work.
I would like to express my thanks for inviting him to participate at the activity weekend. I applaud you all for your hard work and dedication to young people with varying special needs. I cannot thank you enough for including him.
