In total 34 children attended for 165 days.

Over 60% of the children had no other organised schemes to attend over the holiday period. When asked which schemes they enjoyed the most the most popular answers were ‘all of them’, swimming, riding and the beach. We asked what activities they would like to see for next year. The most popular responses were ‘the same’, horse riding, swimming and the seaside.

Over 80% of parents said that the scheme improved their child’s general fitness and confidence & self esteem. Three quarters of parents were able to undertake community activities

What benefits did the scheme give your child?

Better at socialising and more comfortable in public.
Provides variety in the school holidays. Good choice of activities that suited his limited interests.
Positive outlook at home. Happy & chatty. He enjoyed every single day. He enjoys the routine of going somewhere most days. He is always happy to go and pushes us away when he gets there.
It made a big difference to his summer holiday. Gave him independence. He enjoyed the time away from the family. He is a teenager and doesn't like spending all his holidays with his family.
Even though he cannot talk you know he enjoys his time there. He loves to come to the scheme, spending time with other people and children which is of great benefit socially. It gave him exercise - usually he wants to sit in front of a computer all day.

How did other members of the family benefit?

I could do my weekly shopping which is normally difficult if they are with me. I was able to have my daughter's friend around and take them both to the park.
I have my other children to spend quality time. This gives me a break and time to myself. Extra time for me to care for my mother. To go to work for more hours (very important).
We benefit greatly from the time he is at the scheme. We can do things that we cannot do with him there. His sister loves the time we get to spend with her. Shopping, eating out etc.

General Comments

Keep up the good work. Excellent!!
The scheme is amazing and he (and the rest of the family) looks forward to it each year.
It would be wonderful if more places were available and each school holiday covered, to benefit more families. Without LfA he would have no time away from home during the summer because there are no other schemes./ activities available which cater for his needs. There are not enough words to express our gratitude; it makes a phenomenal difference to our family life. The scheme provides a support network for the families as well as the ;'cared for' young person. I have made friends with a lot of other mums in a similar position to me as a direct result of LfA - thank you.
The staff and scheme is fantastic and he truly looks forward to each new year.
We love LfA. It's great for all our family. He and his sister get lots out of it in different ways. It helps us to have a great summer. Don't know what we would do without it.
The staff are approachable and flexible. They ensured his needs were met. This was the only activity day he did without me there. The staff understand about autism. Thank you.
He really enjoys the scheme. Happy to go and cannot wait until next years activities. He loves the people and the consistency of the scheme.
There is nothing else like this for our children. They are unable to access other schemes as they need such a high level of support from staff who have a full understanding of their disabilities. Without it they would be more isolated from society.
He really enjoyed attending LfA and is excited about returning. This type of scheme is vital to his growth and development. He will take part for as long as possible.
